Happy Birthday, Crash Bandicoot! (27 Years Anniversary – North America)

It’s only been several months since Crash Team Rumble was released and Toys for Bob is about to launch Season 2 on September 12, with it bringing the Spyro universe starting with Ripto. It was only like yesterday when we were talking about the leaks for a couple of years.

Not to mention, next-generation consoles are on the way (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) with both being backwards compatible with current-generation consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, making Rumble the second cross-generation game alongside Crash 4 ever released.

According to the Eastern Standard Timezone, today’s indeed the 24th anniversary of Crash Bandicoot of the first ever debut original game, Crash Bandicoot for the PS1, which was released on September 9, 1996. Spyro The Dragon’s 25th anniversary is this week as well (September 8, 1998)!

The original game launched in the midst of a major 3D platforming arena of competitors, with Super Mario 64 being the king, but Crash was no slouch either compared to the others during the year of 1996, it was innovative for the graphics, perspective-shifting gameplay and more direct DKC-like translation of levels as well, it was also Naughty Dog’s first major success for a new game with Sony’s backing, after securing a deal with Universal Interactive.

It received an average of 80.40% on GameRankings, and was an instant success back in the 90s, launching the bandicoot to new heights with sequels and spin-offs to follow.

We might post the top fandom creations in a few condensed posts. Stay tuned for any news that might arise, we might miss it, so tip us ASAP.
