If you closely follow the Crash Bandicoot community on Twitter, you may recall that people discovered during the end-tail of January (it even showed up on Archive.org around January 15), a seemingly strange error on the Activision Support page, where it would list “Windows PC” for the online servers of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled instead of the “Nintendo Switch”, and it even got as far as having the “PlayStation 3” listed when you click to see further details. Now, the latter was eventually fixed but it seems like the former wasn’t (or at least got fixed but then it got changed back to listing “Windows PC”) as of lately.
Now, the reason why is that during the same month, Activision was updating the support URL structure and UI, and during the same period, the Rustland Grand Prix was revealed and dropped, leading to some changes and speculation when the error came up.
And as you might have guessed, this got picked up by a couple of outlets and people online, claiming that this would lend credence to further confirming the eventual possibility of the port happening soon, but unfortunately this is not the case and here’s why: It is exactly what it sounds like, an error. The fact that it stayed there for so long (or might’ve changed to that state) doesn’t exactly confirm its existence. But since I think that because of the way Activision has been driving more and more of their games to be played on PCs, it isn’t exactly unrealistic to think that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled would, again, be brought soon to Steam or Battle.net for players to finally experience it with enhancements like 60fps or unlocked framerate (see: 60fps mod for Nintendo Switch), native 4K, free multiplayer and more.
In summary, just because there’s a real possibility of something happening, doesn’t mean that things that might look like clues or hints would suggest it as being as such. It’s a good idea to just wait and see if Activision is willing to move forward with bringing the game to PC players for this year, now that the Grand Prix seasonal events are over as of late March.
That’s all for now. If there’s any error or addition that you would like to tell us about, please let me know in the comments or via a private message!
