Oh boy, it’s that time of the year again. Activision sending out random influencers things out of nowhere, and even at one point led to last year’s Furry Dice teasing of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’s announcement in The Game Awards.
Earlier today, some popular online content creators (influencers) have posted images on both Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #Crash_Partner and #CrashOnTheShelf, while on the same day, Sony announced State of Play for Tuesday, December 10, which broadcasts at 9am EST (6am PST) and I suspect that even if we don’t get the new game’s reveal there, we could still get some sort of Grand Prix reveal or something.
Said influencers were sent a limited selection of random Crash merchandise figure by Activision (Funko Pop Crash, Incense Burner Kart, F4F Crash PVC), alongside a mini Santa hat to celebrate Christmas. Now, why would you want to know about this? Well, the reason that we’re talking about this is that the #Crash_Partner hashtag is usually used when Activision sponsors an individual or outlet to promote certain games, even teasing them as well in some cases. Here’s a list of all the posts so far as of this writing:
- Sonja Reid (OMGITSFIREFOXX) on Twitter – Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashOnTheShelf, #CTR. Located on the top left of the 6-image grid.
- Adam Waheed (ItsAdamW) on Twitter – Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashTeamRacing. Located on the bottom right of the 6-image grid.
- Thomas Sanders (ThomasSanders) on Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashOnTheShelf, #CrashBandicoot, #CrashTeamRacing, #CTR. Located on the top right of the 6-image grid.
- Alanah Pearce (Charalanahzard) on Twitter – Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #CrashOnTheShelf, #CrashTeamRacing, #CTR. Located on the top centre of the 6-image grid.
- Harley Morenestein (HarleyPlays) on Twitter – Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashOnTheShelf, #CrashTeamRacing. Located on the left side of the article banner.
- Cody Ko (codyko) on Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashOnTheShelf, #CTR. Located on the bottom centre of the 6-image grid.
- Zane Hijazi (zane) on Instagram, using the following hashtag(s): #Crash_Partner, #CrashBandicoot. Located on the bottom left of the 6-image grid.
This is also intentionally well-timed in proximity with Sony’s recent announcement of State of Play on December 10, and the upcoming Game Awards 2019 on December 12.
Now, all of this could be nothing at the end, but there’s good reason to believe in it, after the hints, speculation, leaks and rumours that we’ve been seeing surrounding the new game, not to mention the monthly Grand Prix seasonal events for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled ending on a Saturday, revealed on a Wednesday and released on a Friday.
Pretty consistent cycle, right?
There’re good reasons to believe that this is just the beginning of the teasing for the new Grand Prix and/or new game, but there’s also another reason to not believe in it, because it might end up being nothing in the end. We’ll see next week, fingers crossed.
