MisterBo: Crash Bandicoot’s 25th Anniversary – Why 2021 Could Be A BIG Year For The Crash Bandicoot Franchise!

The last couple of years have been great for Crash Bandicoot as a franchise with the release of the N. Sane Trilogy, Nitro-Fueled and Crash Bandicoot 4 It’s About Time. However 2021 could be the biggest yet as it marks the 25th Anniversary of Crash Bandicoot and we already know we are getting one new game with ‘Crash Bandicoot On The Run’. But could we be seeing other new releases such as the rumoured PvP ‘Crash Bandicoot Wumpa League’ game or other surprises to celebrate this franchise milestone.

GSD (UKIE): ‘Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy’ is #29 and ‘Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’ is #39 for Week 1 (2021) in the UK

2021 is the 25th anniversary of Crash Bandicoot, and it could be a major year. Here’s what you can expect. (Or speculate about)

Notice: Almost everything said in this article is rumoured/speculated, and should be taken with a grain of salt. This is based on educated guesses, hints and finds.

Perhaps 2020 was a bit rough on everyone, and even with some doubt, there’s no denying that the bandicoot still got it. I (personally) reckon that this year, given that it’s the 25th anniversary, could be a major year for the franchise. Here’s what to expect:

The releases

It should be no surprise to anybody that expectations might not always be met depending on how the year might go, so take some of what is said with a grain of salt. Let’s get going of what to expect when it comes to releases:

The anniversaries (major)

Now, if we’re counting by fives, then you note that we have the following games of note. As follows:

  • Skylanders Imaginators by Toys for Bob, published by Activision – October 13, 2016 (Thumpin Wumpa Islands, 5th)
  • Crash Boom Bang by Dimps, published by Vivendi Universal Games – July 20, 2006 (NDS, 15th)
  • Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex by Traveller’s Tales, published by Universal Interactive Studios – October 29, 2001 (20th)

And finally, this year also marks the 5th anniversary of that E3 2016 announcement for N. Sane Trilogy and Skylanders Imaginators. (June 13, 2016)

As well as the fact that Spyro 4 was teased in Crash 4’s Artbook (The Gaming Revolution noted it too).

There you have it. If there’s any error or missing info, please let me know!
