Crash Bandicoot’s modern day refresh, the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy helmed by Vicarious Visions with support development from Toys For Bob, has sold over 10 million copies to date, according to its February 2019 financial results report. People missed the orange marsupial with attitude a lot.

Toys for Bob previously worked on the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which was a remaster of the original Crash trilogy, as well as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The team’s latest project isn’t a remaster, though. Crash Bandicoot 4 is a brand-new game in the Crash series that will pick up immediately after the events of Warped, which left villains Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and Uka Uka stranded on a far-off planet. In Crash 4, the antagonists escape and once again threaten to take over the multiverse; players will inhabit Crash or Coco, as well as Neo Cortex, who will have his own special levels along the way.

[LINKED] IGN: Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time First Gameplay, Details Revealed ft. an Interview with Lou Studdert

Activision has announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a brand new, canonical sequel to Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Spyro Reignited Trilogy developer Toys for Bob is behind the brand new adventure, which is set to be released on October 2, 2020 for PS4 and Xbox One for $59.99.

It’s About Time is built from the ground-up as a new experience in the spirit of the original three Crash games developed by Naughty Dog for the original PlayStation. Players can play either as Crash or Coco Bandicoot for the full adventure, with other playable characters thrown into the mix like Neo Cortex. Featuring a brand new art style, marking a departure from what Vicarious Visions created for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, It’s About Time will feature new platforming moves, new masks with special abilities, two major control schemes, and plenty more. We chat with Toys For Bob’s design producer Lou Studdert about the new Crash Bandicoot game, discussing the new art style, playing as Crash and Coco, and gameplay changes such as collecting masks that can bend time and gravity.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is the first sequel to the Crash series in more than ten years. The latest game takes place a few years after Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped with some characters banned to the end of time and space. Players will take on the role of Crash or Coco to find four quantum masks in order to fix the universe. These masks allow players to manipulate levels through mechanics like time and gravity. The game expands the scope of levels, includes larger boss battles, and adds movement mechanics including wall-running, rail grinding, and rope swinging. Going between regular and retro mode will also change the way players collect lives. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time releases on October 9 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
