[LINKED] ArtStation: George Fergan (Tiger Electronics 99x LCD handheld Developer) Mr. Crool – Tribute

This takes me back to many years ago.

This drawing is a representation of what some of the guys on the team wanted Mr. Crumb to be like, here called Mr. Crool. Our small team was divided into two factions: those who wanted Mr. Crumb as a ghost, and those who wanted Mr. Crool as the head of a scarecrow.

We had the opportunity to publish the same game on two different platforms: the 99x version, surely the most powerful, and a cheap LCD version. We tried to keep everyone happy. So the guys involved in the 99x version made Mr. Crumb (which also got the name CroonCrool Crumb), while the guys involved in the LCD version kept on with Mr. Crool. All things considered, we could say that Mr. Crumb and Mr. Crool were two totally different characters.

It was confusing for sure, but what was important to us was that we entertained the few customers we would have and entertained ourselves. We didn’t want any internal fights.

I don’t actually know if the economic LCD version has ever arrived on the market, I’m sure that some copies exist, mostly because of a Youtube video that I saw some time ago. This sketch, made by me in 2021, is a tribute to those times.

The inspiration for this scarecrow head comes from Waldo, the character from the “Where’s Waldo?” book. The original creator of this design, Dave, sadly passed away recently. This drawing is also a reminder of the good times we had together.

I apologize again for my bad drawing style, but age plays tricks on my eyesight, and I’ve never been a good illustrator before.

May the mask be with you!

Thanks for the tip, Danyq94!
