The best that gaming had to offer in 2020.

The platformer is one of the oldest genres in video games, and yet, even in 2020 it’s still going strong with fantastic games that continue to innovate and impress with such a simple concept of jumping from platform to platform.

Speaking of those fantastic games, these are our nominations for the Best Platformer of 2020.

Crash Bandicoot 4 walks the fine line paying reverence to what came before while also modernizing the beloved Crash series with tweaks and adjustments that make the whole experience still work in 2020. Developer Toys for Bob shows a clear love for Crash in every facet of It’s About Time, but its commitment to the core platforming of the original trilogy reaches new heights thanks to clever level design and a few wonderful additions. TFB evokes the wonderful combination of platforming skill, daring timing, and an ounce of luck, needed to succeed, in a host of imaginative, intricate levels. The core remains great, but it’s what the developers build on top of it that makes Crash 4 feel so special – levels are full of new challenges and collectible opportunities, the N. Verted mirror mode can make sustantial changes, and the new playable characters introduced are all worthy of a spinoff of their own. Crash 4 is nostalgia done right.
