Let’s speculate and look at: Rumoured Crash Bandicoot PvP Video Game

Note: This article is one of two parts where rumours of two upcoming projects are discussed and speculated about. In addition, everything you see here should be taken with a grain of salt, regardless of its legitimacy or obviousness, as well as wearing your tinfoil hat before proceeding.

This year has been really unexpected in well, a lot of ways, and certainly it came with the biggest release of them all, “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time” being out before the mobile game by King, “Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!”, which is slated for release on March 25, 2021. So, what else is also coming next year? Well, it’s actually the PvP game that was previously rumoured by The Gaming Revolution back in March, because there has been some recent developments regarding it, as well as some more sketchy aspects of this development that I wanna touch upon.
Recap from last time: The Crash PvP project, as it was last time rumoured, is a new game being released for consoles, PC and mobile in 2021. It was said that its development were in its early days, although that could change.

So, let’s get started:

Crash 4’s own hints and curiosities:

At first sight, this video, released just days after the Wumpa yin-yang logo present after completing the game at 106% and spinning the TV consecutively flashes it briefly, was released on social media to commence a tribute to Uncharted 4 with Coco trying to do the Clock Bell level and Crash reacting with her. It seems like a cute and nice video to release, until you start to see clues showing up at some parts. Here’s what you need to know (based on speculation of some fans):

  • At the beginning of the video (0:00), you can see 3 marks on the back of the TV, as well as 2 marks on the front of the TV (0:03), and also at (0:25), you can also see a traffic light with a toll pole. Pointed out by JumpButton and Canadian Guy Eh, stitching these together by frequency of “visible” appearance in order as “32221”, which turns it into a date “3/22/21”, which is potentially the date of reveal or release of the game.
    • But wait, you ask, isn’t there also The Game Awards 2020 coming up this upcoming Thursday?
    • Well, yes, but we gotta wait to see if there’re more hints during the week to confirm its reveal there.
  • There’s also something else that can be seen throughout the trailer, and becomes clearer.
  • At the top right at the end of the video (0:26), you can also see the same logo that was teased on a banner named “Wumpa League”, with the same colour scheme. (Orange and Blue)
  • In terms of datamines, there has been an interesting discovery with one of the audio clips by Kingasta, in particular, the one narrated by Lou Studdert, you can have a listen to it below
    • Here’s the transcript: “Welcome to Wumpa Island. Try to complete your training challenges. Score points by grabbing Wumpa and bring them to your team’s bank. Capturing bananas, and snagging melons at the back of the island. Check out the hint crates for extra tips and tricks. Good luck.

4chan’s sketchy but intriguing “leak”:

Usually, we do not report on 4chan posts as 99 percent of the time, they end up being fake. But let’s make the assumption for these two posts specifically, that there’s a hint of truth, a very small one. It’s mainly the logo and name.

  • On Wednesday, a post with the title “New Crash Bandicoot Game” appeared around 6:48pm, with a suspicious logo of what is claimed to be the logo of the PvP game, called “Crash Legends”
    • The author claims that the game would be coming in the next few months, similar to Fall Guys and Rayman M
    • It would put players in a race for the islands, presumably in the Crash 4 setting given the recent hints
    • Free to play with “optional in-app purchases”, matching up somewhat with TGR’s claim of the game being available on consoles, PC & mobile.
    • However, the validity of the name and logo has been questioned by some, noting things like the name being bare bones and uninteresting, as well as the logo potentially having some gaps in the shading and placement of leafs and wumpa fruits. There’s the possibility of this logo also being a placeholder or an earlier version of it.
    • Some people like Hector/iWander have tried to replicate the dithering seen that seemed similar to some screenshots and logo assets for Crash 4 on the web.
  • A few days after, on Friday, a post with the title “Since shits leakin” appeared around 9:15am, with a list of some games being revealed at The Game Awards 2020
    • This includes “Crash Legends”, being claimed as a “Crash Bash esque party game but with more variety in minigames”
    • Validity of this post has been questioned as posts like this can get attention and usually end up being untrue. In this case, some appearances have been officially confirmed, such as Dragon Age 4, Fortnite teaser of “Agent Jones”, and Crimson Desert gameplay trailer.
    • Update: The legitimacy of this is now even more doubted as a new 4chan post was recently posted for “Spyro 4: Hall of the Gods” with a more sketchy looking logo and details.

Conclusion:

Well, it seems to me that there’s a decent amount of evidence coming from the official sources alone, although the more sketchy sources do help assist in this speculative look at Crash PvP. Again, my verdict at the time being is to remain skeptical and be on the lookout.
