[DISCUSSION/SPECULATION] What does the reveal of “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2” remakes mean for Crash Bandicoot?

You’ve probably seen the reveal that happened today on the Summer Game Fest livestream with the interview, and our quickies article mentioning briefly some things about Tony Hawk’s reveal being today (although we did not know who would be heading it beforehand).

Let’s jump into what all of this could mean for our speculation and guessing game of when we can potentially expect to see the bandicoot’s newest installment finally get the reveal that we’ve been all waiting for, shall we?

  • Tony Hawk confirmed earlier via a text message that the game would be coming soon, and was revealed on the livestream mentioned earlier, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Epic’s Game Store (inb4 outrage) to be released on September 4, 2020.
  • Yes, that screenshot attached above does display an Uka Uka ramp, same as the graffiti displayed in the Tiny Arena track for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Thanks for pointing this out, JL’s Crap!
  • It was confirmed that Vicarious Visions would be the lead studio developer on this project, with Beenox assisting as well. It was rumoured that Vicarious Visions would be also heading the Diablo 2 remake/remaster project earlier this month. And as noted earlier in the Quickies post, Activision’s studios act like a singular production in which can handle multiple projects at once.
  • It hasn’t been confirmed but, it looks like the job listings that indicated the move to Unreal Engine seem to support it by looking at the visuals, it’s the studio’s first project to use the engine.
  • The timing also seems to support the fact that we’re on the brink of another reveal before or after the upcoming Call of Duty 2020 release, since again, the Crash Bandicoot social media accounts have not posted anything since as of this writing since May 6, the only exception to this is the reversion to the old pre-Grand Prix availabillity banner for CTR.
    • Again, this bit is just speculation and guessing, and we might as well not get the reveal of the game this May, so be cautious and take any rumours or speculation regarding when is the reveal with a grain of salt, it’s only a matter of time of when we will see it…
  • And finally, the only question(s) left for me to ask are:
    • Is Vicarious Visions still the lead on the new Crash title?
    • Are they involved in any capacity if it happens to be Toys for Bob?

That’s all for now. If there’s any info that’s missing or incorrect, please let me know ASAP.
