So, I made a Twitter thread back around December 2017 with that exact animated image (GIF) attached, wondering when we will be getting a brand new platformer, or even a new game.
Well, for 2018, we instead got N. Sane Trilogy on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam (PC), and also Spyro Reignited Trilogy on PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In 2019, we got Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, while Spyro Reignited Trilogy was released later the same year on Nintendo Switch and Steam (PC). In 2020, it will be 12 years since the last sequel for a Crash Bandicoot mainline platforming game, which was Crash Mind Over Mutant in 2008, and if this is the case with the new game to break this wait, then at last it finally is time to get ready.
We are now in that week in what is I personally dub the “calm before the storm” sorta thing, we’re getting two major events with State of Play direct and The Game Awards 2019, and it is likely that the new game is going to be announced at the latter event. Considering that in the same week, we’re also likely going to get the Winter Grand Prix Season reveal on Wednesday (or Tuesday via State of Play maybe), with a release on Friday. I think it is safe to say with all the things gathered so far, that we’re on track with the future of the franchise being bright and hopefully the new game bringing in some much-needed fresh material and fun to have.
Now, before I wrap-up, I just wanna comment on something that came up earlier today:
Yes, this is a real advertisement, it is part of the “It’s Time to Play” Sony commercial campaign that we’ve seen earlier with the mysterious mask and the bus render, but it isn’t exactly any significant in terms of indication (other ads on Facebook/Instagram have the same motif and tone) and it is frankly pointless when we are in coming in so close to the potential reveal this week. And no, this is not literally “Crash Bandicoot 2020”, as what CrashLeandro on Reddit said on his thread.
And finally, I will be ignoring the other rumour posts that come up, as I think it would be better to wait closer to the reveal time and avoid disparities and confusion.
