Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’s difficulty, memorable track design, and addictive power-slide mechanic make it a kart racer worth playing but it’s not without its frustrations.
1999’s Crash Team Racing for the original PlayStation is a kart racing masterpiece, equal parts challenging and charming. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled for the PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One is essentially the same game with a ton of extra content, lush modern graphics, and a bonus old-school throwback—really long loading times.
Kotaku: Unscored but positive generally
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a gold-standard remaster, capturing the loveably janky, off-brand spirit of classic CTR – and then some.
The best Mario Kart clone of the nineties is also the best Mario Kart clone of the 21st century, with a stunning remake that offers welcome refinement and improvement.
First there was the N. Sane Trilogy and now there’s Nitro-Fuelled. Activision’s Crash Team Racing rebirth is more than a quick cash grab – Beenox has modernised an all-time classic with such evident passion, making this the best kart racing game we’ve seen on PlayStation or Xbox for many, many years.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a top-notch kart racer. There is just a ton of content here that should keep avid fans busy for months to come.
This faithful recreation of the once king of kart racers means Crash Team Racing has seized the throne once more, with enough content and a high skill ceiling to keep players returning for years.
Beenox did a great job preserving the original content, and found avenues to add to it in meaningful ways
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a blast from the past that not only went toe-to-toe with the juggernauts of its day, but can hold its own against the best of the present.
Now, please note that these scores will change over time, but the consensus is that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a great remake of the original Crash Team Racing with content from Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Tag Team Racing and brand-new content added via Grand Prix, which are retrofitted into the gameplay of CTR, making it a great buy at $40 USD, another worthy entry for the bandicoot. Some will still dispute the bandicoot’s might, we will see how it will perform in the long run.
