New demo coming next SAGE, July 28th
Read the description if you want more info about this all:While it might not seem like much I got bunch of progress made on this karting engine. Most visible things are prolly the fact that the turbo works differently now, and that gravity is stronger on slopes. Oh, and you can now land down on slopes, have your kart turn to the slope, and get a speedboost if going downhill.
There’s bunch of stuff that’s still WIP, such as the camera, I haven’t bothered making it all smooth just yet. There’s also no boxes and bunch of other stuff is missing, but that all gets “added” when I copypaste this engine into the same engine that Crash uses. I just gotta make alooot of changes there and remove everything related to Crash’s movement, buuut yeah I believe I can make things work this way… even tho it’s all gonna be annoying to get working, hah 😛
Like with the previous video, the stage loops just to test things out. There also prooobably won’t be this many Sonic-like elements, the stages will be alot more like in CTR but in 2D. Coco here can’t jump as high as Sonic anyway, she and her kart can only do little hops normally. One of the CTR-like elements I’m thinkin of adding are the item boxes, but instead of being random you’d see what you get on the box itself. I’m especially thinking about adding a boost and a missle powerups, boost to… boost, and missle to blow up walls or enemies. There will probably also be wooden !-boxes, to trigger some small elements in the stages.
The length of this test stage is 20 000 pixels. My limit due to some problems with how Clickteam Fusion works with the stage lenght is around 35 000 pixels, so yeah, expect these stages to be split to multiple screens. There will be one of these karting stages in the upcoming demo this july, I’ll be concidering that as somewhat of a test run to see how people like these, what should be worked on, and so on. Thooo you know, if I get crazy I might even release a single stage demo before that too, just to get things working alright before the actual big demo. We’ll see. Either way, no download any time soon, sorry.
Anyway yeah, that’s about it for what’s going on here!
Hey, still reading? Happen to be interested in helping out this project? I’m not-so-actively looking for either graphic artists who could mimic our MS-paint-like art style of the first demo, or people who have skill in making sound effects. With stage graphics, I’m still planning on working on those by myself for the most part, but I’d like to find some assistance and touch-up help, decorating and adding small detail to rocky surfaces or the like isn’t my strongest suite. Aaand with sound effects, well, especially these karting stages could use some gas/engine and turbo sounds, landing sounds, and so on. Iiiif possible, getting whole new custom sound effects for the boxes and everything else would be pretty great too. If interested in either of these, shoot me a Youtube private message or an email (which you can find on my page here), or even a message on Deviantart. If possible, please show some prior work 😛 I use Skype for the most part but can hop on Discord too if need be.
