XNR3: Pixel Crash Bandicoot Fangame Progress Video

I made some small progress on my old unfinished Crash fan game, but I never really bothered sharing until now.

This video shows the 4 existing levels in the game, one of which is still unfinished: N. Sanity Beach, Jungle Rollers, Boulders and (literally) Road to Nowhere.

Yes, I know I used the Turtle Woods theme from Crash Bandicoot 2 for Jungle Rollers, it’s intentional because I plan on including Crash 2 and 3 inspired levels and I was gonna use Turtle Woods for all jungle-themed levels.

Formerly called “””””8-bit”””” Crash”, it’s now “Pixel Crash Bandicoot” because I suck at pixel art so much I can’t really work around the strict “3 colors per sprite” limit of an NES.
A lot of the graphics are still in their “pretentious 8-bit forms”, especially the enemies and wumpa fruits. I’ll need time to update those.

Some objects use flickering to simulate transparency (not that I can’t use actual transparency, but flickering just has that “retro” feel), however, my recording software (“Crash Bandicam”) wasn’t able to capture the flickering correctly, so you’ll see some weird graphical effects in this video (e.g. the crate debris).

I replaced the previously custom music with MIDIs loaded through GXSCC. Most would look down on using GXSCC, but hey at least they sound better than the horrible dissonant soundtrack that is my half-assed attempt to chiptunes.

Also, if you’re actually reading this, congratulations, you’re among the few intelligent people on this planet who knows how to read descriptions. So I’m going to make it clear, this is a WIP project that I most likely never will finish. It’s made for fun as a hobbyist, so please don’t ask for a download link, as none exist yet.

Thanks for reading.
